“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share…so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:18-19
This phrase of Paul’s has stuck with me for weeks now: “Take hold of life, true life.” So much of our time is worrying about tomorrow, is trying to take control of our situations—we figure that one day after graduation, or once we get married, or have kids, or get that promotion, then we will begin to really start living. We live like life hasn’t really started yet, this is just the warm-up.
Elizabeth Edwards wrote when she was diagnosed with cancer that “this diagnosis is a reminder that this life is the life you’ve got. And you are not going to get another one.”
Likewise, Paul realizes that this is life and so we should take hold of it—by giving it way!
What ways are you giving the best of yourself away to others? Are you being generous or stingy with your time? With your money? With your passions? Are you willing to share? What would it look like to truly start living for God today?
