Devotion: Whose House are You Building?

Whose House Are You Building?

Solomon spent seven years building the temple. It took Solomon 13 years, however,

to complete the construction of his palace.

1 Kings 6:38-7:1

King Solomon was a rising star; a young man taking over his father’s business, prepared to build a house for God. Like most of us, however, the priorities of life changed for him. Instead of staying focused on serving God, he started obsessing about securing his lifestyle.  After building a house for God, Solomon spent twice as much time building an even more luxurious house for himself.

What place does God hold within our own lives? Are we only half-heartedly serving God, while seeking to serve ourselves? Do we spend more time on building God’s Kingdom, or our own?

What would it mean for you today to:  “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”  Colossians 3:23
